In her autobiography, de Rossi discusses her battle with anorexia in a bhearbreaking yet ultimately uplifting way; she shares how she dieted on an off until she eventually weighed only 82 pounds and had to be hospitalized. She reveals how her career in modeling and acting made her hate her body and how society's stigma against homosexuality forcered her deeper and deeper into the closet. Despite how depressing Unbearable Lightness seems, it shows the strength of human spirit and that sad stories can have happy endings.

In this book, an alien race invades Earth by taking over human bodies. The main chararcter Melanie had recently been resisting the aliens up until her capture. However, the alien that was put in her was unable to extinguish Melanie's strong-willed soul, creating a lot of internal conflict (literally). The story focuses on the two separate characters, Melanie and Wanda (the nickname the alien develops), sharing one body and builds when Melanie encounters a large resistance group who isn't sure if they can trust her. This book follows two men who travel from place to place searching for work and dream of eventually settling down to a place of their own. One of the man's lack of intelligence causes them to constantly find themselves in trouble, and finally they get into a situation that is impossible to get out of.
