2nd Quarter Writing Center Statistics

Monday, February 9, 2015

During second quarter, 235 students came to the writing center. During November, 106 students came to the writing center. In December 78 students came in, and in January, 51 students came in. It is important to consider that 2nd quarter is filled with vacations and holidays, so it is hard to have a lot of students come into the Writing Center with little time.

This quarter, the writing center did an excellent job of reaching juniors, who made up the leading group of 37%. Freshmen are still being reached, and make up 36% of the total group.  There were more sophomores that came to the writing center, and they made up 18%. Seniors made up 9% of the students that came in to the writing center.

Thanks to everyone who came to the writing center to be tutored!

Slow Walkers

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Something that absolutely gets on my nerves are slow walkers. You're running late to class and the person in front of you just will NOT speed up. I mean come on you're going to be late too. Once when I was rushing to class, someone was walking extremely slow, so I tried to pass her, swinging my arms pretty fast. As I was passing her, my elbow hit her in the stomach and I was horrified. I mumbled a quick "Sorry" and ran to class. You see if you don't want me to elbow you in the stomach DO NOT walk slow. Honestly why would you do that to your self. Pretty much everyone hates slow walkers, do you really want everyone to hate you? Then walk faster because I definitely can't stand you if you walk slow. Unless your leg is broken and you have to limp and take up hallway space and time, there is no need for your legs to cycle so slowly.

- Someone who hates slow walkers

February Book Recommendation

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
February is the month of love. And what book is better suited for this theme than Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice?
Recommendation made by: Michelle Song

Synopsis*:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." Thus memorably begins Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, one of the world's most popular novels. Pride and Prejudice—Austen's own 'darling child'—tells the story of fiercely independent Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters who must marry rich, as she confounds the arrogant, wealthy Mr. Darcy. What ensues is one of the most delightful and engrossingly readable courtships known to literature, written by a precocious Austen when she was just twenty-one years old.
Humorous and profound, and filled with highly entertaining dialogue, this witty comedy of manners dips and turns through drawing-rooms and plots to reach an immensely satisfying finale. In the words of Eudora Welty, Pride and Prejudice is as "irresistible and as nearly flawless as any fiction could be."
